The Columbus Day Festival and Hot Air Balloon Regatta is only seven weeks away, and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce reminds readers that some of the activities require pre-registration.
The Scarecrow contest is on again this year. Enter a scarecrow and maybe win some cash. The scarecrows are placed on Maple Street at lamp posts along with props. The scarecrow needs to be in place by noon on Friday, October 9 and removed after 4 p.m. on Saturday. Register with the Chamber office, 429-1492, to receive a location.
Entries are now being taken for the Outhouse Race (outhouse is provided). Six teams, comprised of four contestants, will compete in an obstacle course. One member rides and performs feats of dexterity, while the other 3 push the outhouse. For more information contact the Coffeyville Community College Columbus campus at 429-3863 to register.
Slots are open for the 5K Run/Walk. Pre-registration is required by October 8 and their is a fee. The 5K is a certified course and will be rain or shine. Entry forms are available from American Bank and the Chamber office. This event is sponsored by American Bank.
The parade is always a highlight of the festivities, and first, second and third place prizes will be given for floats. Kids who decorate their bikes or trikes may win a prize. The parade starts at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, October 9.
Changes have been made for this year’s Car show. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 registered cars. Additional questions may be directed to Hal at the Coffeyville Community College Columbus campus automotive class.
New this year is a Poker Run for motorcycles. The event will begin at Jay Hatfield Kawasaki at 11 a.m. This will be a 100 mile ride where participants will collect their playing hand at designated stops. Prizes will be given for the top three hands, plus the worst hand. Hot dogs will be served after.
Football fans can meet former players of the Kansas City Chiefs. Members of the KC Chiefs alumni organization will be in attendance to visit and sign autographs. The location and time of this event will be announced.
