BAXTER SPRINGS — At 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, over 170 Baxter middle school and high school students will converge on the Baxter Springs High School Auditorium to perform with professional conductor and composer Dr. Keith Hampton of Chicago. Dr. Hampton is the president of Dr. KT Productions, Inc. of Chicago.

“This will be a wonderful evening of choral music and jazz, with over 170 choir and jazz band students represented from USD 508,” Choral Director  Brenda Locke said.

Dr. Hampton will be in Baxter all day on Oct. 23 working with the high school choirs, middle school choir, and the high school jazz band. The choirs and jazz band will perform together in the evening accompanied by Dr. Hampton.

The choirs are under the direction of Mrs. Brenda Locke. The jazz band director is Mr. Louis Morgan.

Various types of American music will be featured throughout the evening. Some of the songs that will be included: “Circle of Life” from the Broadway smash “The Lion King,” a spiritual “Soon Ah Will Be Done,” “Play Me a Simple Melody” of the ragtime era, and the classic “Summertime.”
