Cherokee County-Wide 4-H horse meetings have started. The first meeting of 2012 was held at the 4-H building, February 21. Members introduced themselves and named a part of a horse. Nancy Herrenbruck and Angie Rippel, project leaders, gave an overview of the project. Meetings will be held every Tuesday evening at 6 in the 4-H building until April. The April meetings will be held at the Columbus Saddle Club Arena. The co-meeting February 28 will encompass information on the English Rising Discipline and Roping. Anyone interested in riding English this year and needing equipment can contact the leaders. There are several saddles, tack and clothing items available to borrow for the season. The leaders do this as a service to the members just starting the English discipline in order to allow the 4-Her to try something new without the expense of buying new tack. Riding English takes riding to a higher skill level, it also allows the 4-Hers to enter the world of jumping. The roping meeting will introduce the riders to equipment and the skills needs to begin roping this year. Leading this portion of the project is Bob Shanks, 620-674-1657. If you have any questions about meetings, horses, or tack please contact Nancy Herrenbruck 620-249-2322 or Angie Rippel 620-762-0068. Enrollment cards need to be turned in to the Extension Office as soon as possible and Horse IDís must be in by May 1, 620-429-3849.
