COLUMBUS -- The Cherokee County Commission heard budget requests from all department heads at Monday's regular meeting.

Most requests were equal to, or slightly higher than the previous year's request.

One that was considerably higher, was the elections budget presented by County Clerk Rodney Edmondson.

Edmondson told commissioners it was because the 2014 election season will encompass several elections, including a city election in April, an August congressional primary and a general election in November. Election budgets do fluctuate based upon the number and size of elections in any given year.

No action was taken on the proposed budgets at Monday's meeting.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a sliding-axle flatbed trailer for the road and bridge department at a cost of $81,589.

The trailer will be used to haul trackhoes and other large equipment.
