Every five years since 1992, which was the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus the Columbus, Kan. community plays host to an All School Reunion. The next one will be in 2012.

According to a release from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, plans for the 2012 reunion will begin to take shape at a committee meeting noon this Thursday at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce office. Thursday,  Those wishing to help with this large community activity are encouraged to attend this committee meeting. The committee would like to have a representative from each graduating class in attendance to help with plans.

According to Columbus Chamber Director Jean Pritchett, the reunion usually has roughly 1,200 Columbus Unified High School alumni in attendance.

According to the release, the Chamber office is already receiving phone calls asking about the event from graduates and any one in the community is welcome to come and help with this event.

“Dates need to be scheduled, letters need to be sent advising alumni, plans need to be set in motion, attend this beginning planning session and give us your ideas,” Sonja Duley, Class of 1983 chairwoman said.
