BAXTER SPRINGS — The Route 66 Music Tour will be making a stop in Baxter Springs September 25.

The 2011 Fall Route 66 Music Tour will feature the Mark Cross Band and will be traveling 2400 miles in eight states, stopping in over 20 towns to perform.

The Mark Cross Band is comprised of four young men ranging in ages of 17 to 18. Singer/songwriter/lead guitar Mark Cross, guitar player John Butzer, Bass player Hunter Van Dam and drum player Kevin Lopez. All four boys went to high school together before joining Cross in the band. Cross was originally an acoustic solo artist.

The band composes and performs original music as well as re-arranging some of Cross’s solo pieces to be used in full four piece bands.

The Mark Cross Band has set out a goal to record four albums in four months. During June, July and August the band recorded a studio and a Hollywood concert album. In August Cross also recorded an acoustic album and in early September, prior to the tour, the band recorded a concert album. All four albums are scheduled to be released in November.

Cross has been playing music since he was ten when he received his first bass guitar from his father. Mark continued to play and by age 16 he had composed his first song. At 17 he recorded and distributed his first acoustic demo disk and in mid-2011 he was picked up by a Hollywood music producer.

The Mark Cross Band will play at 2 p.m. on September 25 in the Baxter Springs High School Auditorium. Cross invites anyone to stay after the performance and speak with him.

More information about the performance and the band can be gathered at Baxter Springs City Hall.
