According to a press release from Orthopaedic Specialists of the Four States, LLC (Ortho 4 States) State Rep. Doug Gatewood (D-Columbus) will join the company as Director of Government Affairs beginning June 1.
“Representative Gatewood has a background of both local and state government which brings valuable experience to Ortho 4 States as we partner with the City of Galena on the new hospital,” said Joe Caputo, Ortho 4 States CEO in the release.
Gatewood announced two weeks ago he would not be seeking reelection. He will be ending his seventh term in the statehouse.
"I'll be helping with economic development, accessing different opportunities we have and monitoring legislation at the state and federal level," Gatewood said, adding he would primarily be working from Southeast Kansas not in Topeka or Washington D.C. “I look forward to working with Ortho 4 States and the entire community as we build on the momentum created by Ortho 4 States, Stateline Surgery Center, and Four States Physical Therapy and Aquatic Rehabilitation.”
Orth 4 States opened a combination medical office building and outpatient surgical center in Galena in 2010, and currently constructing a new 30,000 square foot medical office building and new inpatient hospital in partnership with the city, schedule to be completed in December of 2012.
“We are proud to have Ortho 4 States as part of our community and look forward to announcing further development in the near future," Gatewood said.
He said he's looking forward to not living roughly half the year in Columbus and half in Topeka.
"I'll miss the people I've had the opportunity to work with," he said. "But not the (legislative) process.
"The part I'm most excited about is spending full time in Cherokee County, having the job year-round. It's always nice to be home."
