Tears of sadness and joy were shed as District Court Clerk Shirley Carpino was honored Wednesday at a retirement party in the Cherokee County Courthouse.
Many of the court’s employees and members of Carpino’s family were in attendance.
Carpino has been the Cherokee County District Court clerk for 22 years. Prior to that she was the secretary for the Cherokee County Attorney’s office for 14 years.
Carpino was also awarded with a certificate of appreciation from the Kansas Supreme Court. District Court Clerk Specialist Lisa Wilson presented Carpino with the award at the party.
Carpino said she is not sure what she is going to do with her retirement.
“I will just do what comes along,” Carpino said.
Carpino also said she plans on spending time with her grandkids now that it is summer and plans to relax.
A replacement has not been found for Carpino’s position.
