COLUMBUS — Cherokee County Commissioners directed County Engineer to have the road and bridge department place gravel in a parking lot near Rainbow bridge in advance of Saturday's scheduled ribbon cutting. Sheriff David Groves was also asked to close the bridge to traffic Saturday to prepare for the event.
Governor Sam Brownback will be in Baxter for the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting.
Kansas Route 66 has been declared a state scenic byway and the event is to make the official proclamation.
The commissioners were also invited to attend a tour of the Caterpillar manufacturing plant by Fabick/Cat's Andy Holman. He told the commissioners he was planning a trip for September or October and would like the commissioners to attend.
Commissioners additionally met in executive session to discuss the Penn National Gaming lawsuit.
