A Columbus woman is needing help with medical expenses, following surgery for bone cancer earlier this month.

According to her sister-in-law Denise Lucian, Tess Lucian had a mass the size of a soccer ball removed from her side and several ribs replaced with titanium prosthetics.

“On March 17 she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer,” Denise said. “She’s already had the mass removed and she’s doing real well.”

Denise said Tess will be starting six cycles of chemotherapy Friday when a chemotherapy port will be put in, in St. Louis. The treatment could last as long as 30 weeks.

“Fortunately she has very good insurance but every trip she has to take to St. Louis there’s food and hotel bills,” Denise said. “It’s adding up quickly (for Tess and fiancé Rod Watson.)”

Denise said to help defray the costs a medical fund has been established at Community National Bank under the supervision of Janet Brooks.

Additionally they will be hosting a spaghetti luncheon for Tess on May 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H building in Columbus.

The cost will be $6 per plate for spaghetti from Josie’s in Scammon, salad, bread and dessert. Delivery is available by calling (620)429-3828 or (620)762-6060. Denise said those wishing to simply donate to the medical fund can do so by sending checks made out to Tess attention Janet Brooks, Community National Bank of Pittsburg, Box 1186, Pittsburg, Kan. 66762.
