The Cherokee County Emergency Management Office, along with the Cherokee County Community Emergency Response Team, has been checking with special needs residents throughout Cherokee County today to insure their safety during the recent winter weather.

Residents are encouraged to regularly check on family and neighbors who may be elderly or have medical histories that could be complicated by the severe cold.

No warming or emergency shelters have been opened in Cherokee County at this time, but sites have been identified, and should the need arise, they will be opened.

Any Cherokee County resident, who needs assistance due to the cold, is encouraged to contact the Office of Emergency Management at 620-429-1857 or the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 620-429-3992 or 620-848-3000.
