Two prominent Columbus businesses are set to merge early next week - Evan’s Drug and Columbus Family Pharmacy.

Jason Hulvey, owner of Evan’s Drug, and David Schoech, owner, of Columbus Family Pharmacy said they are excited about the opportunity this merger will bring, not only to themselves, but to the whole community.

The new partners said the business will remain in operation as Evan’s Drug with the phone number to remain 429-3322.

“We have always considered ourselves as colleagues, not competitors,” said Shoech.

All employees of both stores will continue to work in the new store. Products and services provided by both stores will also remain available in the new store.

According to Schoech the merger has been “in the works for about six to eight months.”

The two pharmicists have long ties as Schoech was trained by Even McNemar, the former owner of Evan’s Drug, and Hulvey was trained by Schoech.

“Evan McNemar wrote my recommendation to pharmacy school,” said Schoech. “I wrote Jason Hulvey’s for him.”

The new store is scheduled to be in operation by Tuesday of next week but an inventory process will be ongoing at the Columbus Family Pharmacy site for a period of time as required by law.

Anyone who goes to the Columbus Family Pharmacy site will be directed to the new store.

Schoech said that one of the benefits of the store is that it will allow him more time to spend as a member of the State Board of Pharmacy and the duties it requires.

“We will also be better able to bid for large employers  not currently using our home-town pharmacy,” said Hulvey.
