INDEPENDENCE — Medicalodges Inc. of Coffeyville will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this week.

Medicalodges provides services in 23 long-term care facilities, two assisted living facilities, facilities for the developmentally disabled, home and community based services and other health-care related services throughout Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Medicalodges has been serving the long-term care community for 50 years and to celebrate this achievement Medicalodges of Coffeyville is hosting a three-day celebration in Independence for approximately 250-300 individuals which started Wednesday and ends today.

Medicalodges of Columbus Administrator Travis McBride said they were happy to be taking part in the celebration. He said five people including himself would be attending. McBride said there would be many activities, including an awards ceremony. He said he was not sure if any of his employees would be receiving awards. He said they would not be told until the actual ceremony.

President and Chief Executive Officer Garen Cox said the crowd of approximately 300 would include employees as well as vendor partners, dignitaries, senators, representatives, the Kansas Secretary of Aging, and representatives of the Agency of Health Care Administration.

“Our company is 100 percent employee-owned, so it is important to have them around.” Cox said.

Medicalodges employs approximately 2,000 employee-owners.

Cox said the celebration started Wednesday around 1 p.m. with a performance by the inspirational group Drum Cafe.

Cox said other activities would include training sessions, vendor presentations, a company picnic, a talent show, and a barbecue with a live band.

Cox said there would also be a videographer and a photographer at the celebration. He said they would be videotaping and photographing everything for those unable to attend. Cox said because the venue is small, there would not be room for more than 300. But this way everyone would be able to see what went on at the celebrations and would also be able to see and take part in the offered training sessions.
