An Oswego man is dead after a single-car accident Friday.

According to a release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Charles J. Wilkins, of Oswego was traveling west on Scammon Road near Northwest 70th when his vehicle apparently left the roadway at about 2:43 a.m. and rolled, ejecting Wilkins.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves said deputies were on scene within six minutes of the initial call. He said they attempted CPR but were unsuccessful. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Wilkins was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Groves the coroner’s report shows  Wilkins died of internal bleeding.

Columbus Fire Rescue personnel and Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services responded also responded.
