The Cherokee County Emergency Management Department is still waiting for the delivery of the new storm sirens, Emergency Management Director Jason Allison told the Commission Monday.

Allison said a pre-construction meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday with Empire District Electric Company and the company which is installing the sirens.

Allison said the meeting will ensure Empire will know where all the sirens are placed.

The commission also appointed a steering committee to work with the Joplin Regional Prosperity Initiative which is planning a "Market Street Study" to assist in economic development in the area.

The steering committee consists of Trish Carrol, Columbus Telephone, Galena Superintendent of Schools Brian Smith, Greg Motley, American Bank, Galena Mayor Dale Oglesby and Commissioner Richard Hilderbrand.

The commission will not meet Feb. 20 in honor of President's Day, but will meet briefly on Feb. 21 to approve the final bills for February.
