James “Jim” Arnold Wiseman, 90, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at McPherson Hospital. Jim worked as a switching equipment technician for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1988.

Jim was born on June 8, 1926 in Green County, Missouri, the son of Robert Thompson and Ina Ellen (Owen) Wiseman. He attended Fair Grove Consolidated School in Fair Grove, Missouri. Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On Sept. 20, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Iona J. Quinette in Salina. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1993. He married Sarah Vancil Brunk on April 24, 1994, in McPherson.

Jim was a member of McPherson Church of the Brethren and Telephone Pioneers. He was a former member of First Baptist Churches of McPherson and Salina.

Survivors include wife, Sarah of the home; three daughters, Patricia Seger (Dennis) of Independence, Missouri, Diana Pierson (Dale) of Assaria, and Linda Witten (Karl) of Emporia; sister, Vesta McKinnis of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Shawn Seger, Ashley Bates, Jamie Pierson, Marcus Pierson, Josh Witten, Kelley Witten, and Stacy Tate; and three great-grandchildren, Ava Scott, Hudson Bates, and Landon Bates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; three brothers; and three sisters.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at The Cedars Conference Center, McPherson with Rev. Chris Whitacre and Rev. Kathryn Whitacre officiating. Inurnment will be in the McPherson Cemetery at a later date. In accordance with Jim’s wishes, his body was donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
