Shirley Lana Zortz, 63, Frontenac died at 2:30 p.m. Friday August 21, 2009 at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
She was born September 11, 1945 in Garnett, the daughter of Elmer Allen and Maggie (Daniels) Taylor. She lived most of her life in Kansas.
Shirley received her BS and MS degrees in Education both completed from Pittsburg State University.
She married Richard Lee Zortz in 1964 in Frontenac. They were later divorced and he preceded her in death in 2006.
Shirley worked in a variety of places in Kansas, her professions included school teacher, hairdresser, Kansas Pipe fitters Union, Kansas Legal Services, H & R Block and the Census Bureau.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a son Bryan Zortz and wife Amy of Weir; a brother Rodney Taylor of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Skylar Zortz, Austin Rogers, Sydney Zortz and Jacob Zortz.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Reverend Jamie Tickel officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery. Condolences can be made to www.bathnaylor.com.
