Roger Lewis Bezinque, age 82 of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed from this life Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Quaker Hill Manor.
Roger was born May 1, 1929 in Pittsburg, Kan. to the union of Roger Victor and Edith Cora (Lewis) Bezinque. He grew up in Frontenac, Kan. and graduated from Frontenac High School in 1947, and from Kansas State Teachers College in 1951. Upon graduation from college, he served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Lenore Hamm on February 4, 1951 in Pittsburg, Kan.. She survives of the home.
In 1955 he began his teaching and coaching career in Liberal, Mo., later moving to Baxter Springs in 1960 as an agent for Prudential Life Insurance. In 1962 he was employed by Riverton High School, Riverton, Kan. as a coach and later as guidance counselor, retiring from there in 1992.
In his thirty years of teaching and coaching athletics at Riverton High School, his most gratifying role was that of guidance counselor. Many former students expressed how they were influenced by his interest and guidance in their lives.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Scott Bezinque and wife Lorrie of Olathe, Kan., and Curtis Bezinque and wife Kim of Midland, Texas, and four grandchildren Paul, Jason, Joel, and Tori Bezinque.
Memorial services was held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Dave Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery.
