Virginia Rose VanAuker, 84, of Riverton, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Virginia was born February 16, 1925 to the union of John and Effie Rae (Boone) Ratcliff.
She was a memeber of the First Christian Church in Columbus since1937.
She was united in marriage to Marion Mason Jr. May 23, 1942. They shared 54 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death March 15, 1997.
Virginia later married Clair “Lefty” VanAuker on November 26, 1998 in Riverton. He survives at the home.
Virginia worked numerous jobs throughout her life, including the ownership and operation of Mason Dairy, located North of Riverton. They bottled and sold milk throughout the area until 1975. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Columbus. She also enjoyed attending church at both the Riverton Friends and the House of Prayer.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Swaim and husband Richard of Riverton, Kansas, Linda Smith and husband Win of Joplin, Mo., Carolyn West and husband Danny of Baxter Springs; two step daughters, Jackie Hall and husband Clark of Baxter Springs, Cheryl Edwards and husband Bill of Riverton; one step son, Clair “Dutch” VanAuker of Riverton. Along with many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 3, at House of Prayer Church in Riverton. Pastor Audie Tash and Pastor Wes Davis will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to house of Prayer building fund, c/o Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.
