Martha (Julie) Green Newby, Johnson City, Tennessee, died Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital following a 2 year illness with ovarian cancer.
Daughter of the late Charles B. and Louise Green, Julie was born and raised in New Jersey but came to East Tennessee to attend Milligan College in 1954. She returned to the area in 1967 and had been a resident of Johnson City since then.
Julie was retired from ETSU School of Medicine, where she served as a lab technician for the Department of Surgery. She graduated from Milligan College with a degree in Chemistry and Biology and was a member and elder of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church.
Julie is survived by her sister, Louise Clites, her son, David Read, her daughter, Sylvia Read, and her husband, Frank Newby, son of the late Armon Newby and Bessie Stonecipher Newby of Columbus, Kan., as well as four grandchildren, Nancy Kerr, Isaac Spooner, Drew Read, and Luke Read. She loved and treasured Frank's children, David and Joy Newby, Dan and Yvonne Newby, Mike and Stacey Newby, and Peter and Kristin Newby, and all of their children.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Seeger Memorial Chapel on the campus of Milligan College, with Timothy Ross, minister, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hopwood Memorial Christian Church or Milligan College.
