Caryl Jean (Adams) Kallaus 73, of Cherokee, Kan. died 10:40 p.m. Tuesday March 6, 2012 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac, Kan.
Caryl was born August 17, 1938 in Weir, Kan. the first born child of Archibald and Caryl (Harper) Adams. She attended and graduated from Weir schools.
On February 25, 1956 Caryl married Charles F. Kallaus Jr. at the family home in Weir, Kan., he survives at the home. They just celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary. Caryl worked for two years as a teacherís aide in Weir, Kan. When Chuck entered the ministry in 1978 she served along side him in whatever capacity needed, filling such needs as childrenís minister, youth group leader and lay speaker. She also preached in Greely, Kan. for a year at the United Methodist Church, was a delegate for the United Methodist General Conference and was known to serve the Lord all her life. In 1982 Chuck and Caryl moved to Pittsburg and began Wesley House. What started in a small store front next to a bar with only a handful of people grew to a thriving vital ministry with well over 200 people attending and serving every Sunday.
Carylís health had declined in recent years due to Alzheimerís disease. Even in the fog of illness she kept her love for her Savior first and foremost.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack Adams; sister, Janice Perry and grandson Daniel Rentfro.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Karen Johnson and husband Tom of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kathy Henderson of Pittsburg, Kan., Karla Pulliam and husband Rod of Cherokee, Kan., Kristen Buckley and husband Butch of Cherokee, Kan.; grandsons, Russ Johnson, Chris Johnson and wife Sara, Dallas Pulliam and fiancťe Kayleigh Williams, Cory Pulliam, Kyle Rentfro, Max Buckley and Truman Buckley; great-grandchildren Taylor and Anna Johnson; brothers, Frank Adams of Pittsburg, Kan., Charlie Adams of Spring Hill, Kan.; sisters, Joyce Adams of San Diego, Calif. and Suzie Dagg of Greenville, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Monday March 12, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Kan. with Rev. Ellie Foster officiating. Burial will be at a private date in Lone Elm Cemetery in Rural Cherokee County. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday March 11, 2012 at the Bath Naylor Funeral Home of Weir, Kan.
