Jack R. Pierson, 80 of Columbus, Kan. passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin following a long illness.

Jack was born February 6, 1930 in Hominy, Okla., the son of John D. and Beulah D. (Cain) Pierson.

He married Lola M. “Peggy” Olney on May 16, 1948. The couple had two children and later divorced.

He married Mary F. Read on April 24, 1964. 

Jack worked for USD 493 as a custodian for many years and retired from Eagle Picher on June 3, 1993. Jack enjoyed motorcycles, his dogs and spending time in Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Lloyd Alvin Coons Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; two daughters, Anita Hall and husband Bill of Columbus and Patty Hale and husband Ronnie of rural Columbus; four grandchildren, Erin Coons, Brandon Coons, Eric Hale and Brea Kimbrough all of Columbus; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry D. and wife Glenda of Exeter, Mo.; a niece, Susie Walker  and a special nephew, Charles R. Read

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in the Murdock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Edgmand Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
