Lyle Eugene Myers, 79, stepped into eternity to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Lyle was born in Altoona, Kan. on March 12, 1933 to the union of Leonard and Velma (Harris) Myers. He married Dorothy Frankenbery on August 10, 1952; she preceded him in death on April 6, 1993. He then married Mary Jane Sheffer on March 4, 1995, who survives in the home.
Lyle was a gentle giant with a big heart and loved by everyone who knew him. He spent most of his life in the grocery business owning Lyle’s Foodtown in Baxter for 37 years. When he sold the store, he missed seeing his loyal customers. He loved fishing, golfing, poker nights, and the annual pheasant hunting trips with his buddies.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sons, Leonard and David Myers; one daughter Gwen Maute; two brothers, Jack and John Myers; and one sister, Shirley Walker.
Survivors include daughters, Kathi Smith and husband Darrell, Baxter Springs, Kan.; Becky Beasley and husband Henry, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Kari Hamilton, Carl Junction, Mo.; Traci Simmons and husband Harold, Joplin, Mo.; Jan Gibbs and husband Greg, Broken Arrow, Okla.; sister, Virginia Babcock and husband (Brother-in-love) Otis, Chanute, Kan.; brother, Lewis Myers and wife Delores, Arvada, Colo.; son-in-law Tony Maute, Quapaw, Okla.; sister- in-law Marcia Myers, Atlanta, Ga., and Shelda Myers, Independence, Kan.; and daughter-in-law Martha Myers, Baxter Springs, Kan. grandchildren, Heather Watkins, Lacey Myers, Angie Putnam, Jared Tunnell and wife Laura, Natalie Zanatti and husband John, Jennifer Durbin, Ashley Campbell and husband Jared, Courtney Rector and husband Charles, Leslie Barton and husband Jake, Alison Brinkley and husband Jason, Adrian Dunn and husband Billy, Rachel Beasley, Brittany and Brooke Hamilton, Colton and Tate Simmons, Preston, Quincy, and Macie Jane Gibbs; nineteen great-grandchildren, and multiple friends.
Funeral Service will be held 11 am, Saturday March 17, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Baxter Springs Kan. Rev. Joseph Walters and Pastor Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Friday at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan.
