Ruth K. Rogers, 98 of Columbus died at 6:07 a.m. Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the Autumn Place Assisted Living Facility in Columbus.

She was born June 30, 1913 in Rural Columbus on her grandfather’s farm, the daughter of John Henry and Emma Frieda (Heinrichsmeier) Jarvis. She lived her entire life in the Columbus area; she attended Columbus Elementary Schools (Frontier, Park &Center Star) and was a 1931 graduate of CCCHS with a Normal Training Certificate to teach in the elementary grades. She later earned her BS and MS with degrees in elementary education at Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg.

Ruth taught school in the surrounding Columbus area at Fairview, Frontier, Center Star, Cross Roads, Center and Park for nearly 25 years retiring in 1972.

She married Charles R. Rogers on June 6, 1936 in Columbus, he preceded her in death on February 17, 1976.

Ruth was a member of the Columbus United Methodist Church;, the United Methodist Women, KARSP, Center Star Homemakers Club. She was a former member of the following organizations-Clio Club, Columbus Literary Club & Delta Kappa Gama.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson Jeffery Rogers; a sister, Lora M. Bull; and two brothers Ralph and John Marvin Jarvis.

Survivors include a son Paul Rogers of Columbus, Kan.; three daughters, Carol Ann Detter of Seattle, Wash., Nancy Jane Rogers of Novato, Calif., Barbara Kay Dorris of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday September 19, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with Reverend Margaret Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus where friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday.
