Mildred Mae “Millie” Venturella, age 90, passed away at 2:15 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Quaker Hill Manor, Lowell, Kan. following an illness.Millie was born August 27, 1922 in Galena, Kan. Her parents were Albert and Hazel (Wilson) Wenzel. She was the first of five girls born to this family. She was raised by Lt. Russell and Mildred (Wenzel) Brock, and provided care for them until their deaths. She had lived in Cherokee County, Kan. all of her life. Her sisters, Jacque June Garcia Ingram, Betty Jean Ruger, Genevieve Wenzel and Mary Alice Hall, and three nephews preceded her in death.Millie graduated from Galena High School in 1940, and won several dance contests in the area during that time. She was a member of First Christian Church, Galena, Kan. for 49 years. She was active in church and a past president of Galena Woman’s Club. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.She was married to Charles Gordon “Buddy” Venturella on June 13, 1946 in Columbus, Kan. He survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Gordon D. (Resa) Venturella, Chicago, Ill. and Tony D. (Gayle) Venturella, Lawrence, Kan,; and four granddaughters, Tara (Mark) Kinsley of Columbia, Mo., Tiffany (Josh) Green of Columbus, Kan., Chelsea Leigh Venturella and Caley Jo Venturella, both of Lawrence, Kan.
Graveside services will be at 11 am, Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, Kan. Rev. Tony D. Venturella will officate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. In leiu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to First Christian Church, Galena, Kan. or Lincoln Christian University, Lincoln, Ill. in care of Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.
