The grave of Marylee Brochmann will be blessed and dedicated at St. Bridget's Cemetery in Scammon on Saturday, September 22. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. presided over by Father Chrysostum Au Maung followed by a luncheon hosted by St. Bridget's Altar Society.
Marylee Brochmann passed away on May 31, 2012 in Lawrence, Kan. where she had made her home since 1974.
She was born in 1926, the daughter of Edward and Louise Masterson. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1944 and received a BA from KU in 1948. After living in Oslo, Norway for many years, she returned to Columbus in 1955 with her son, Kristen. In 1967 she returned to KU and received her Masters in Social Work and in 1974 she became a Lecturer at the School. Later she became an Assistant Professer of Social Work and Director of the Undergraduate Division of the School of Social Welfare. She retired in 1991. She was an active sailor and participated in many activies at the university, She stayed close to and was a supporter of Miller Hall where she lived during her student days, and to Mortar Board, a student civic support group
Her son, Kristen Brochmann, his wife, Rosy Harari, both of New York City, Marylee's long time companion, Don Chambers and friends from Lawrence will be there. Also expected to attend are cousins, Mary and Tom Otto, and Theresa Wilkinson and a few life long friends. All who knew Marylee are invited to join the ceremony and attend the Parish Hall in Scammon afterward. Arrangements are by Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir, KS.
