Ernestine B. Rhoades, age 93, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center, Joplin, Mo.

Mrs. Rhoades was born November 25, 1916 in Galena, Kan.  Her parents were Jess E. and Nellie Mae (Phipps) Hobson.  Except for living in California from 1937 to 1945, she had lived in the SE Kansas area all of her life.     

She worked several years in the Riverton School cafeteria as the school baker.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Riverton, Kan.  Her family was most important to her.  She was renowned as the family prayer warrior and for her baked goods.

She was married to James Ray Rhoades on November 22, 1933 in Galena, Kan.  He passed away July 7, 1972. 

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Larraine Coyle; one sister, Nadine Rouse; and one brother, Enos Hobson.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Rhoades (wife, Ginger), Neosho, Mo., and Jerry Rhoades (wife, Dixie), Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Rayma Jo Hutto (husband, Don), Columbus, Kan., and Joyce Gelso (husband, Bob), Miami, Okla.; one son in law, John Coyle, Grove, Okla., one brother in law, Earl (Bud) Rhoades (wife, Pearl, Baxter Springs, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.  Rev. Herb Parsons will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, Kan.

Pallbearers will be John Hutto, Tom Hutto, Jim Rhoades, Todd Rhoades, David Gelso, and Justin Gelso.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
