Thelma Lou Miller, age 94, of Baxter Springs, Kan., went to be with her Lord on June 2, 2011. Thelma Lou was born on October 1, 1916, east of Baxter Springs to Fred and Rosie (Smith) Weiss. Thelma Lou was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Baxter Springs.
She married Alva R. Miller February 14, 1954 and began her life on the farm with the love of her life. Before her marriage to Alva, she was very involved in her church, teaching Sunday School, leader of worship and singing and playing her banjo in regular services as well as in revivals. In later life, she enjoyed taking tours with seniors, swimming at the YMCA, involving herself with her grandchildren and countless youth, by always encouraging them. She was a lover of poems and loved to recite her favorites. More than anything, she loved her Lord. All knew her to pray and encourage others, and she was always found thanking God for everything, even the smallest things. Everyone will remember her big smile as she would say with gusto, “I Love Life”!
Thelma Lou is survived by her daughters, Mamie Houser, and husband Ralph of Baxter Springs, and Mary Lou Tabers, and husband Jim of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Alisha Houser, Brett Houser, Greg Tabers and wife Tanya, and Todd Tabers; and three great-grandchildren, Karisa, Kasandra, and Kaelyn Tabers.
