Leroy Davis, 78, died at his residence west of Galena at 8:35 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2009 after a sudden illness.
Mr. Davis was born June 5, 1931 in Joplin, Mo. His parents were James and Ella Lee (Rush) Gibson. He had lived in Galena since 1985, moving from the State of Washington.
He retired in 1969 after a career in the US Navy. He entered the Navy in 1949 and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was trained to perform several duties, including Mess Management Specialist and a Commissaryman aboard submarines.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve #315.
Surviving is one brother, James Gibson, Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Lois Koetje, Grandview, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
Leroy has arranged for his ashes to be returned to the sea, embarking aboard a US Navy vessel from Bremerton, Wash.
A memorial service and military rites will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 10, at his residence 7289 SE 78th Terrace by the Miami Okla., American Legion Veterans Funeral Detail. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
