Robert Thomas Rogers, 64 of Columbus, Kan., died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from complications resulting from a massive stroke.

Bob was born to Robert S. “Huck” and Thelma Juanita (Latcham) Rogers in Nevada, Mo.

He graduated from Appleton City High School in 1964. After graduation he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps and served two years in Vietnam. Upon discharge he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguished Service.

He was a longtime employee of Day and Zimmermann Inc. Bob worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant as a licensed plumber and pipe fitter until his death. He was also a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #441.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and was an active member in the Columbus Bass Club as well as Ducks Unlimited.

He leaves behind three children, Robin Rogers and wife Jennifer of St George, Kan. Heather Rogers-Thomas and Eric of Savannah, Ga. and Justin Rogers of Columbus and three grandchildren Alex & Andrew Rogers and Ava Thomas, one brother Bill Rogers of Edgerton, Mo., extended family and friends

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Murdock Chapel with Rev Dennis Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment of ashes will follow at a later date in the McKee Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the McKee Cemetery with the Murdock Funeral Home, 132 E Pine, Columbus, KS 66725serving as custodian.
