Erma Lucille (Bruce) Shanks of Columbus, Kan. passed away on January 15, 2012 at the Medicalodge Columbus, Kan.

Lucille was born on March 20, 1928 near Chetopa, Kan. She was the daughter of Harry Oliver Bruce and Adah Lavina (Laizure) Bruce.

Lucille graduated from Columbus High in 1946. She married Orlan Leon Shanks February 5, 1947. Lucille worked at the Berry Garment Factory from 1946 to 1951. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and farm wife. Lucille and her family were very involved in the Columbus Saddle Club and received the Friends of 4H award in 2001. She received the Chris Award during the Columbus Day celebration in 2004. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Harry Dale and Harold Lloyd Bruce.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, daughter, Anna Mae Brown and husband Dennis of Girard, Kan.; sons, Dennis Shanks and wife Vicki of Liberty, Mo., Bob Shanks and wife Marta, and Bruce Jonny Shanks of Columbus, Kan., daughter, Linda Griffitt and husband Kenneth of Columbus, Kan. The couple have twelve grandchildren, Ginger Carlisle, Dale Brown, Amy Brown, Jody Robeson, Stacy Shanks, Denton Shanks, Bobbi Ann Shanks, Marty Shanks, Sheena Shanks, Brenton Cody Shanks, Lindsey Allison, and Travis Griffitt and ten great grand children; Cale and Peytyn Carlisle, Justin Robeson, Ava Allison, and Noah Griffitt. Lucille is also survived by sister Doris Wyrick and husband Carl of Roy, Utah and brother Joe Bruce and wife joy of Welch, Okla.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, 10 a.m. at Derfelt Funeral Home Columbus, Kan. with Dennis Johnson officiating burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Medicalodge Activity Fund or the Greenlawn Cemetery Association.
