Barbara Ellen Pruitt, age 83 of Baxter Springs, Kan. passed from this life Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility.
Barbara was born March 13, 1928 in Hockerville, Okla. to the union of Henry and Mary (Belt) Pruitt. She was a lifelong resident, graduating from Galena High School. She did seamstress work out of her home for many years, before starting work at the former JC Penny’s as a clerk. She then went to work for McCartney’s for twenty five years, retiring in 1985.
Barbara was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Baxter Springs. There she taught Sunday school and was very knowledgeable about the Bible. She enjoyed quilt making and made several. She was an avid reader, often reading about the History of London which she loved dearly.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry “Hank” Pruitt, and Isaac Pruitt; one sister, Juanita “Donnie” Pruitt-Easley; sister-in-law, Marilyn K. Pruitt; brother-in-law, Charles Easley.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Arnall of Miami, Okla., and Tim Bicknell and wife Denise of Spring, Texas; six grandchildren, Mandy Prince, Kyle Arnall, Katie Smith, Bryce Bicknell, Parker Arnall, and Madison Arnall; two great grandchildren, Courtney and Cara Prince.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Church of the Nazarene, Baxter Springs. David Bindel, C.L. Armstrong, and Ted Easley will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.
