Richard Eugene Harley, age 79, passed away at 11:53 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2010 at Integris Regional Medical Center, Miami, Okla. following an illness.

Born March 25, 1930 in McCune Kan. to Maurice Shirley “Possum” Harley and Helen (Greenfield) Harley, he had lived in SE Kansas most of his life. He graduated from Columbus, Kan. High School before acquiring a welding certificate at Kansas State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kan.

He worked over 30 years as a welder. He was a member of Pipefitters Local Union #178 Springfield, Mo.

He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, Parsons, Kan., and was a past member of Mirza Shrine. He enjoyed working with his hands.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Harley, Harry Keith Harley, and John Aaron Harley.

Surviving are two nephews, Ron Harley, Independence, Kan. and Maurice Harley, Girard, Kan.; two nieces, Brenda Shirley Ostroski, Leavenworth, Kan., and Yvonne Gail Harley, Columbus, Kan.; and one close cousin, Robert Greenfield, Dallas, Texas area.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at McCune, Kan. Cemetery. Don Wymore will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s transportations Fund in care of the funeral home.
