Leewin A. (Smokey) Thomas, 84 of Columbus, Kan. passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at St. Johnís Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.
Leewin was born July 29, 1926 in Scammon, Kan., the son of Samuel Alfred and Lela Gussie (Scott) Thomas.
He was a veteran of WW2 serving with the US Army in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters.
He married Twila Divine. The couple lived in Scammon and Columbus. Twila preceded Leewin in death.
He married Betty Parsons and they lived in Columbus. Leewin worked for 20 years at the Hudson Filling Station and later for Dickie Clay Manufacturing in Pittsburg. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the VFW.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin; sister, Barbara and a grandson, Christopher.
He is survived by his wife Betty of the home; two sons, John Thomas and wife Christine of Columbus and William Thomas and Barbara Lemos of Columbus; two step-sons, Dennis Brumback and Linda of Lacygne, Kan. and Ernie and Mary Brumback of Columbus; two step-daughters, Terrie and Burch Porter of Crestline and Billie and Joe Hall of Columbus; four grandsons, nine granddaughters, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; three brothers, Robert and Marie Thomas of Salisaw, Okla., Billy Gene and Alice of Pittsburg, Kan. and Samuel Thomas of Leavenworth, Kan.; a sister, Darlene Rapp of Columbus.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, Kan. with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Grand Villas of Columbus with the Murdock Funeral Home, 132 E. Pine, Columbus. KS 66275 serving as custodian.
