For several years now, the Macksville Lady Stangs have had to battle against taller, and much taller teams, but that wasn’t so much the case playing against Ness City last Tuesday night at home as the Lady Stangs defeated the Lady Eagles 25-10, 10-25, 25-19.

Now, the Otis-Bison Cougars did have some tall, heavy hitters and they used them to defeat the Macksville gals 22-25, 8-25.

However, the problem that has plagued the Lady Stangs throughout the year has been the lack of consistency, and it shows in the scores above.

The way Mackville’s head coach Jennifer Gillespie put it, “Consistency, or lack thereof at times is our Achilles heel. We came out on fire against Ness City and let them turn the tables on us in the second set. The third set was back and forth early until we were able to establish a lead at the midway point and finally finish.”

Gillespie continued saying “We jumped out early on Otis and let them creep back in late in the first set.  In the second set our hitters made numerous hitting errors.”

The Junior Varsity split with Otis 19-25, 15-10. Same with Ness City 15-25, 1 (the clock ran out).

Olivia Vosburgh had 2 kills, 6 digs 14 assists, and went 9/10 serving. Taylor Gillespie had 7 kills, 2 blocks, 15/17 serves and 6 aces. Sophie Filbert had 5 kills, 5 digs, 10 assists and 8/8 serving. BrayLynn Anshutz had 2 kills, 3 blocks, 7 digs and 5-5 serving.

Lyset Ibarra had 6 digs, 10/11 serves and 2 aces. Secylla Blevins-Blass 2/7 serves, Jenna Russell 4 digs and Lexi Wright had 7 kills and one block.

Against Otis, Filbert had 10/10 serves, 3 aces, 7 assists, 2 kills, 1 block and 5 digs. Vosburgh had 1 kill, 5 digs, 2/4 serves and 3 assists. Gillespie had 1 kill, 7 digs and 3/4 serves. Anshutz had 1 kill, 4 digs, 1 block and 2/8 serves. Blevins-Blass had 5 digs and 3/3 serves. Ibarra had 1 kill, 2 digs and 2/2 serving. Deisy Carrillo had 2 kills and 2 digs. Wright had 4 kills and 2 blocks. Russell was 100% serve rev.

“This week we are working on tooling the ball off the block better and taking what the defense gives us.”
