The seventh grade girls track team at Columbus continues their successful season, finishing second at the Girard Invitational with six teams competing.

“This was a smaller meet with only six teams, but it was a very competitive meet. Pittsburg and Iola had very good teams,” said Coach Troy Haraughty. “We need to have a good week of practice.”

Seventh Grade Girls

“The seventh grade girls continue to place, hopefully in these last two meets we can put it all together and bring home a team championship,” said Haraughty.    

Kylie Jones  took first place in both the 100 meter dash (13.9 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (29.2 seconds).

Katrina Froebe was third in the 100 meter hurdles event with a time of 19.83 seconds. She also took fifth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:13.14 and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 10’10.”

Lauren Cassidy was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 34:02.6.

Jessica Robinson took fifth place in the discus throw with a toss of 54’2.”

Tara Holland took fifth place in the high jump with a leap of 3’10.”

Adison Swadley took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 20.39 seconds.

The Columbus 4x100 Relay team finished second in a time of one minute flat. The team included Keri Spear, Tara Holland, Katrina Froebe and Jones.

The Columbus 4x200 Relay team also came in fifth place in a time of 2:12.9. The team included Shannon Tremblay, Kimmie Thomas, Lauren Cassidy and Breah Biggerstaff.

The 4x400 Relay team also finished second in a time of 5:12.9. Team members include Jones, Holland, Swadley and Froebe.

The Sprint Medley finished with a third in 2:12. Team members include Trembley, Thomas, Holland and K. Spear.

Seventh Grade Boys

The seventh grade boys of Central Junior High School were fourth in the Girard Invitational track meet. This is an improvement for the boys over their previous meets.

Justin Graham took second in the high jump with a leap of 4’10” and Ryan Thomas took third place in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 19.11 seconds and Clayton Cossairt took .Daniel Rennie took fourth place in the long jump with a 12’10” leap and fifth place in the 200 meter run in a time of 29.61. Michael Morrissey took fourth place in the 100 meter run in a time of 14.27 seconds and Justin Graham was sixth in 14.78 seconds.

Dawson Soper was sixth in the 800 meter runs in a time of 2:51.5.

In the all-important relay races Columbus took two second places and two third places.

The 4x100 relay team was third in 57.5 seconds. Team members include Graham, Morrissey, Ty Spear and Thomas.

The 4x200 meter relay team was second in a time of 2.00.9. Team members include Spear, Morrissey, Rennie and Thomas.

The 4x400 meter relay team was third in a time of 4:54.4. Team members include Blake Martin, Soper, Thomas and Graham.

The Sprint Medley team finished second  in a time of 2:12.8. Team members include Chase Bolin, Martin, Spear and Cossairt.

Eighth Grade Boys

The Eighth Grade Boys finished fifth in the invitational with 48 team points.

Andy Young took first place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:53.4 and third place in the 800 meter run in a time 2:41.2. Brice Bennett was second place in the 400 meter run in a time of 1:04.2 and was fifth in the long jump with a 15-foot leap.

Cody Spainhower was third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 20.0.

The 4x100 relay team finished in fourth place in 58.14 seconds. Team members include Gavin Houser, Colton Moyer, Spainhower, and Blake Mackensen.

The 4 x200 meter relay team finished in fifth place in a time of 2:08.76. Th team includes Houser, Moyer, Spainhower and Aaron Napier.

The Spring Medley relay finished in second place in a time of 1:59.8. Members of the team include Spainhower, Mower, Bennett and Houser

The next action for the junior high will be in Coffeyville on April 30, the meet will start at 3 p.m..
