The Central Jr High Titan basketball team won all four games Monday in their home opener against the Girard Trojans.

Playing 7th grade “A” and “B” games and 8th grade “A” and “B” games, the Titans utilized the newly renovated “Old” gym on the Central campus.

The 8th “B” team played in the “Old” gym while the 7th “A” team competed in the “New” gym beginning at 3:30 followed by the 8th “A” game in the “New” gym and the 7th “B” game in the “Old” gym at 4:30.

The Titan 8th grade “A” team evened their season record to 1 – 1 with its win over the Trojans. They managed a 33 – 23 win, led by Aaron Bigando’s 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Cameron Brown followed with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 steals. Other team members and stats include: Justin Foust 3 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal; Justin Graham 2 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal; Ty Spear 2 points, 1 rebound; Jacob Porter 1 rebound; Dawson Soper 2 steals; Blake Martin 3 rebounds, 1 steal.

Coach Joby Riker said, “We’re not doing our job defensively too well.

We’re tall and trying to block shots from the wing instead of taking away the dribble drives that are killing us.”

The 8th “B” team won 24 – 10 on even scoring from all 5 team members.

Ty Spear and A.J. Box lead with 6 points each and Zac Kresyman, Dawson Soper, and Clayton Cossairt had 4 points each.

The 7th grade Titan “A” team remained unbeaten by toping the Trojans 41 -5.

Coach Riker said, “We got a lot of easy looks in the offense without having to move the ball too much.”  The team dominated the first quarter 15 – 2 and never looked back.

They held Girard scoreless in the second quarter and allowed only 3 points in the second half. Nate Bole led all scorers with 17points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Joe Schoech had 11 points and 2 steals; Brendon Billesbach 7 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals; Keaton Schoech 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal; Kendall Hale 2 points; Ben Sills 4 rebounds; Tyler Hosier 1 rebound, 1 steal; and Dakota Holdahl 3 rebounds.

Seventh “B” won 22 – 9. Scorers were Keaton Schoech 11 points, Tyler Hosier 7 points, Cody Freemand and Armone Norris 2 each

The four Titan teams will all be in action at Central on Thursday, January 14, when they host the Pittsburg Community Middle School. Games begin at 3:30pm.
