BAXTER SPRINGS - The Baxter Springs girls edged out the Southeast Lancers 49-43 in overtime in their first league contest last week.

The Lady Lions went into the first half tied 17-all and were down by four 28-24 at the end of the third quarter, but they came back behind game-high scorer Nina Spence who hit two treys in the fourth and had 11 of Baxter's 12 points in the fourth quarter to tied it up 36-36. Baxter put together a 13-7 overtime period to take their first league win.

Spense led scoring with 1 field goal, 5 treys and was 7-of-15 from the line for 24 points. Tasha Wampler was also in double figures with 4 field goals and was 4-of-7 from the line for 12 points.

Baxter Springs boys 38, Southeast 27.

The boys game was a low-scoring affair with Baxter Springs picking up the win 38-27.

The Lions pulled ahead in the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring the Lancers 9-3 in the first and 10-2 in the third.

Southeast took the second quarter 9-8 and the fourth 12-11 but were never really in contention.

Kacey Elias led scoring for Baxter with 12 points on three field goals and a 6-of-6 performance from the line. Nick Abernathy was also in double figures with 10 points on 3 two-point goals, one trey and he was 1-of-1 from the line.

As a team the Lions had 11 two-point goals, 2 treys and were 10-of-14 from the line. Southeast had just 5 two-point goals, 3 treys and were 8-of-13 from the line.
