Titan Senior Chase Leonard took a 2 – 2 pitch over the center field fence in the top of the seventh inning for a 2 run homerun to win the first game of the double header 8 – 6. The Titan Varsity baseball travelled to Parsons for make-up games on Tuesday at the Labette Cardinals field. The Titans jumped out to a 5 run lead in the top of the first inning. Leonard had the first RBI of the game on a single to centerfield. Tyler Elmore’s single scored 2 RBI’s but left him stranded on second.

Tanner Grant singled in the second inning and was left on base.

Leonard doubled to left field in the top of the third inning closing in on the 355 yard sign on the fence. The first run for the Vikings came in the bottom of the third inning as they began to creep back into the game. They also picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Taylor Spear singled in the top of the fifth inning for the Titans but was left on base with Trevor McLaughlin who was hit by a pitch. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Parsons tied the game at 6 runs each with 4 runs on 3 hits, all hit into the right field gap.

When the Titans came to bat in the top of the seventh inning, Spear singled to the short stop and stole second base setting up a scoring opportunity with Leonard at the plate. After running up a 2 balls and 2 strikes count, Leonard smashed the 2 RBI home run over the fence to put the Titans up 8 – 6. Leonard closed out the game with 2 strike outs from the pitching mound to steal the win.

Travis Jones was the winning pitcher for Columbus, he faced 11 batters in 4 ˝ innings, with no strike outs and no base on balls. Chase Leonard got the save, striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced. CJ Freeman faced 20 batters as the starter and had 3 strike outs and 1 base on balls. Wes Krull took the loss for Parsons.

In the night cap game, the Titans sunk the Vikings in a shortened “run rule” game, 13 – 2 after 5 innings. The Titan offense was slow to start with 3 up and 3 down in the first inning. There were 2 outs in the second inning when Travis Jones and Montana Grant both singled to left field. Tyler Elmore hit them in with a 2 RBI single to center field putting Columbus on top after 2 innings 2 – 0. In the top of the third inning, Trevor McLaughlin’s RBI single scored Jaden Tedlock who reached first base on a walk to start the inning. Taylor Spear scored Tanner Grant and McGlaughlin on a 2 RBI single to left center field. Jones singled to right field. The Titans led 5 – 1 after 3 innings.

Elmore singled to open the 4th inning and Blaine Parsons was hit by a pitch. Tedlock and T. Grant each picked up RBI’s. McLaughlin doubled to right field for 2 RBI’s and Leonard double to left field for a RBI to score Spear after he earned a base on balls. M. Grant closed out the hitting with a single and the Titans extended their lead 9 – 1 after 4 ˝ innings.

In the top of the fifth and final inning, the Titans were back at the top of the lineup. Tedlock singled, T. Grant reached first base safely on a dropped third strike, and McLaughlin added 2 RBI’s with his single to center field. Spear walked and Leonard singled. When Justin Graham drew a walk, McLaughlin scored. M. Grant topped off the scoring with a RBI field’s choice play to bring Spear home for the 13 to 2 winning score.

The Vikings 2 runs of the game were both unearned.

Chase Leonard got the win for the Titans on the mound. He pitched 3 complete innings, facing 12 batters for 2 strike outs and 3 base on balls. Travis Jones earned the save, pitching 2 complete innings and facing 11 batters for 2 strike outs and 2 base on balls. Joel Collins was the losing pitcher for the Vikings.

The Titan Varsity team will host the Independence Bulldogs in a SEK League double header at the Community Field Complex on Friday. Games start at 4:30pm.
