The 2009 Columbus Titan Football Team has been putting in time on the practice field the last two weeks. They have also been showing off some of their progress during intrasquad scrimmages.
The first scrimmage came on Saturday, August 22 at the Central practice field. The Annual Lawn Chair Scrimmage was held after an hour long instructional camp for the Columbus Mini Football players. The Titan team worked with the Mini Titan teams, grades third through fifth, to help them improve their route running, blocking, tackling and other fundamental skills used on the field.
Friday’s scrimmage was held following the annual Meet the Titans night hosted by the Titan Booster Club. All the teams involved in fall sports, cheerleading, dance, and band were introduced and fed by the Booster Club thanks to generous donations from local businesses. The Titan football team was in charge of the entertainment for the rest of the evening. They did not disappoint. Fans packed into the south end of the ailing stadium seating were treated to a great showing of offense and defense put on by the entire team. Freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity. Coach Grundy and his staff have been busy fine tuning their team to be ready for the season opener next Friday night. The Fightin’ Titans will host Iola with kickoff at 7 p.m. Come out and support your hometown team.
