CHEROKEE — The Columbus Lady Titans had a good tournament at the Lancer Classic last week, going 2-1 and finishing third overall.
The girls had beaten Oswego in the first game of the tournament but then fell to Riverton 63-55 in the second game of the tournament, but rallied to take the third place game from Frontenac 60-57 on Saturday.
We did well,” Head Coach Kenny Boeckman said. “The Frontenac game started off rocky.
“I told the girls I wasn’t really worried about it at that point becuse we were getting open shots, they just weren’t going in.”
Despite being down 17-4 at the end of the first quarter against the Raiders, Columbus came back to out score Frontenac 17-9 and 16-6 in the second and third quarters to take the lead.
The Raiders outscored the Lady Titans 25-23 in the fourth period.
Boeckman said he was pleased with the overall team effort, and particularly with Danielle Crain, who was named to the all-tournament team.
Boeckman said she averaged 17 points a game during the tournament where she had been averaging around seven points per game.
We were just a little hiccup away from playing in the championship game,” he said. “And I think we played well enough to do that.
“But third place isn’t bad. We’ll take that.”
The Lady Titans are on the road to Pittsburg Thursday night and will face Chanute at home Friday.
