CHEROKEE — After dropping a heartbreaker to Oswego 50-48 in the first round of the Lancer Classic, the Columbus Unified High School won their last two games to take 5th place in the Lancer Classic Saturday.

“We played well against Frontenac and Southeast,” Head Coach Kevin Brown said. “Particularly in the second half.”

Columbus hammered Southeast 66-43 in the fifth place game Saturday, behind 16 points from Matt Crain, 12 from Taylor Spear and 10 from Colten Stanley.

The Titans are now 4-7.

“That’s more than we had all year last year,” Brown said.

“We’re not satisfied, but it’s an improvement.

“It was a really great team effort.”

Brown said eight players scored against Frontenac in the 75-60 win and nine in the final against the Lancers.

Crain averaged more than 20 points per game in the tournament.

The Titans are on the road against Pittsburg Thursday night and face Chanute at home Friday.
