BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Commerce started the 2012 portion of the schedule off on the wrong foot Tuesday night, dropping a pair of games to host Baxter Springs, Kan.

The Lady Tigers suffered a 49-18 loss while the CHS boys dropped a 43-29 decision.

Baxter's girls raced to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter, then the Lady Lions went into the half with a 26-5 margin.

The hosts then held 12-7 and 11-6 advantages in the second half.

Tasha Wampler and Ashleigh Grimes scored 23 and 15 points, respectively, for the Lady Lions.

Mikah Durham and Ashley Bigeagle scored seven points each for Commerce.

In the boys' game, Baxter Springs grabbed a 10-8 lead in the first quarter, went into the half with an 18-15 advantage and stretched the gap to eight (31-23) heading into the final stanza.

Jerrod Kirtley and Ricky Watkins scored seven points each for Commerce. Blake Jameson added six.

Kacey Elias had 13 points and Austin Karnes added 12 for the Lions.

Commerce travels to Fairland Friday night.
