ALTAMONT - The Columbus Titans were swept by the Labette County Grizzlies in Altamont Friday night. The boys went down 60-30 and the girls fell 60-39.
Labette County jumped on the Titan boys early behind four straight treys from Dontae Johnson and Lee Reliford.
The Grizzlies racked up a 20-8 first quarter and kept it up through the second 22-8. Carrying a 42-16 the Titans were unable to rally in the second half.
Labette managed to shut down the Titan's offense all but completely in the second half, out scoring them 12-5 in the third. Columbus did muster a bit more in the fourth, outscoring the Grizzlies 9-7.
As a team the Titans shot 8-of-21 from the field, 2-of-14 from the arc and were 8-of-14 from the line.
By way of contrast, the Grizzlies were 20-of-29 from the field, 6-of-13 from the arc and 3-of-7 from the line.
Colten Stanley led scoring for the Titans with 14 points. He was 5-of-7 from the field, 1-of-5 from three-point range and 1-of-2 from the line.
In the girls game things were not much better. The Lady Grizzlies carried a 20 point lead into the half and never looked back.
The Lady Titans shooting woes continued with a 7-of-38 performance from the field, 4-of-6 from the arc and 12-of-28 from the line. Labette County was 18-of-48 from the field, 5-of-15 from the arc and 5-of-7 from the line.
Marissa Thompson led scoring for the Titans with 11 points. She was 2-of-6 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 1-of-2 from the line. Madi Evans was also in double figures with 10 points. She was 2-of-6 from the field, 1-of-1 from the arc and 3-of-9 from the line.
The boys fell to Galena 68-50 on Jan. 24.
