BAXTER SPRINGS — The very young Baxter Springs Lions fell to the Erie Red Devils 53-12 Friday night, falling to 0-3.
"Our biggest issue is we're so young," Head Coach Donnie Bigby said. "Our boys are playing so hard but out of 22 slots five are filled by upperclassmen, the rest are freshmen and sophomores."
Erie simply ran away with it, scoring 14 in the first quarter, 15 in the second, 17 in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
Baxter's only scores came in the second quarter a run by Colton Krokosia and a 35 yard pass from Krokosia to Rusty Bunce.
Baxter has struggled all season with youth and injuries — they have one player out with a broken leg, but Bigby said his team is improving each week.
They face Diamond, Mo. in Diamond Friday night.
