TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cowley Tigers of Arkansas City, Kansas, brought home the program’s first College Volleyball National Championship! Baxter Springs graduate, SkyLeigh Bingham was signed last year to play for the Nationally ranked team after she lead her High School Volleyball Program to the CNC Championship and received First Team All Conference, First Team SEK Elite Honors, and Team MVP. SkyLeigh had a great season as a freshman at Cowley. She received invaluable playing time as the team’s Defensive Specialist. It was an experience that she will never forget.

After the National Championship game, SkyLeigh gave the following quote to reporters. “The experience of winning the National Championship was like no other. It was such a hard fought battle, so the feeling of victory was even sweeter!”

“When we scored the final point, it was just surreal. We were overwhelmed with emotion. The entire team rushed to center court where we hugged, cried and literally collapsed onto the court.”

“Our team became very close throughout the season. We have supported and encouraged one another to be the best. Being a college athlete takes an incredible amount of work and dedication. There were times when we were all exhausted, and during pre-season, it often seemed impossible to get through the training. In the end, the hard work was worth it. We are all stronger because of the experience, and we have an amazing memory that we will cherish forever, not to mention a National Championship Ring to wear on our finger!”

The team received Championship Rings at a ceremony on February 29, 2012. SkyLeigh is the daughter of Rusty and Melanie Bingham, and the Grand-daughter of Larry and Linda Bingham and Frank and Merle Ann Womack, all of Baxter Springs.
