Junior Kayla Justice has been notified by the Kansas Authors Youth Writing contest that her short story Mrs. Charlotte has won a prize in the prose category. She will travel to Topeka October 16 to be honored at a ceremony and reception followed by a flashlight tour of the capitol. Justice's story will be published in the Kansas Authors 2009 book.
The contest is for young writers living in Kansas. There are five age divisions and the categories are poetry to forty lines, fiction to 500 words and nonfiction to 500 words. There is no specific topic. Entries are judged entirely on literary merit.
