Jack D. Wright, 76 of Columbus, Kan., went to be with The Lord, Sunday, March 28, 2010. Jack had been at the Freeman West and East Health Systems in Joplin, Mo. for the past four weeks.
Jack was born October 20, 1933 in Columbus, the son of Isam and Alta (VanVacter) Wright.
He attended Columbus schools and graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. He married Ruby Smith of Columbus on November 26, 1952 in the Methodist Church in Columbus. Jack worked at the Berry Garment Factory 1951 to 1955, and Farmers Chemical from 1955 retiring in 1988. In 1991 Jack and Ruby summered in Branson and worked for Treasure Lake R.V. Resort for 15 years in the store and game room. He was known as “Coffey Man” for the Treasure Lake Coffee Club. He was also an active volunteer at Treasure Lake. Jack was a 25 year volunteer fireman for the Columbus Fire Department, he also volunteered time with the Boy Scouts and Little League programs in Columbus.
Jack was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in rural Columbus.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son Gail R.; three brothers, Rex, Bert and Clyde and a sister, Pearl.
Jack is survived by his wife Ruby of the home; son, Glen Wright and wife Janie of Monett, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wright of Columbus; one grandson, Jason Wright of Columbus; three granddaughters, Christa Wright-Brown and husband Tom of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Julie Wright-Hoag and husband Nate of Shawnee, Kan. and Amanda Wright-Holt and husband Gary of Joplin, Mo.; three great-granddaughters, Lydia Hoag, Evelyn Brown and Madelyne Brown.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor’s Herb Parsons of Columbus, Bob Martin of Peoria,Okla. and Jim Richardson of Branson, Mo. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery, Columbus, Kan. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Murdock Funeral Home 132 E.
