Virginia R. Augustus, 85, of Hallsville, Mo. died on Friday, December 26, 2008 at South Hampton Care Center in Columbia, Mo.

Virginia was born on July 12, 1923 to Robert and Beulah (Watson) Gore. Both preceeded her in death.

She was also preceeded in death by a sister, Verna Lou Smith; a niece, Debbie Smith; and several aunts and uncles. She graduated from Cherokee Community High School in Columbus.

She married Robert Augustus on July 7, 1943 in Boise, Idaho where Robert was stationed in the Army Air Corps prior to his deployment in Burma during WWII. He preceeded her in death on January 19, 1996.

She is survived by daughter Becky and husband Larry Mayfield of Hallsville, Mo.; son Jim and wife Sue Augustus of Cushman, Ark; grandchildren Mike Mayfield of Centralia, Mo., Shari Harmon of Hallsville, Mo., Amy Harlos of Columbus, and Emily Augustus of Mountain View, Calif., and, great grandchildren Bradley, Brian and Blake Harmon of Hallsville, Mo.; Ethan, Kyle and Caitlin Mayfield of Centralia, Mo.; and Jackson Harlos of Columbus.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbus, and attended the Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville, Mo.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 pm on Monday, December 29, at the Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus.

Services will be at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 30 at the Murdock Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Park Cemetery in Columbus. The Rev. Betsy Happel from Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville, Mo. will officiate.
