Air ambulance required for one passenger

COLUMBUS - No matter how many precautions an individual takes, entropy can envelope a situation in an instant. At 5:27 p.m. on Friday evening, emergency responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the 4 corners intersection at Highway 69 and Highway 166, south of Columbus.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves, a 2016 Ford Fusion, driven by Columbus City Councilman Drew Richards, was headed northbound through the intersection when it was t-boned by a westbound 2010 Toyota van, which failed to stop at the stop sign. The driver of the van was Fuqui He, 54, of New York.

Sheriff Groves said that Kim Richards, who was a passenger of the Ford Fusion, was entrapped and was transported by air ambulance to a Joplin Hospital to be stabilized; prior to being flown to KU Medical Center.

The passenger in the Toyota van, Bixiu, Wen, 52 of New York, was transported by ground ambulance to a Joplin Hospital. Councilman Richards went to a Joplin Hospital by private vehicle.

"All occupants were wearing their seatbelts," said Sheriff Groves.
